DORIC COURT NO. 83
History

Doric Court No. 83 received its charter on January 2, 1945, under the leadership of Willie B. Session as the inaugural Commandress. Situated in the heart of Houston's 3rd Ward, Texas, the court is immersed in black culture and history. Approaching its 80th anniversary, Doric Court remains dedicated to addressing the needs of its community. From supporting youth, the elderly, and the disadvantaged to promoting black businesses and organizations, Doric Court has maintained a strong focus on community service. The close-knit relationship between Doric Court and Historic Doric Temple, No. 76, underscores the importance of collaboration in achieving significant impact.

Over the years, Doric Court has been guided by 21 influential women who have paved the way for the current 22nd Commandress. Both Commandresses and members alike have played pivotal roles in upholding the values and traditions of the court, ensuring its continuity across generations of Doric Daughters. These Daughters, hailing from various professions and backgrounds, contribute their skills and talents to the collective goal of community empowerment.

Doric Court's commitment to service is evident in its various initiatives, including voter registration drives, the establishment of the Boogie Down Doric Clown Unit in 2019, and ongoing volunteer efforts at institutions like the Ronald McDonald House and The Beacon. Additionally, the court actively mentors youth through organizations such as TWST4Girls and the Houston Youth Dynasty, aligning with Imperial initiatives.

As Doric Court approaches its 80th anniversary, it remains steadfast in its mission to exemplify finer womanhood and empower its community. With a focus on service and leadership development, Doric Court will continue to make a lasting impact for years to come.
