Aqaba Court No. 221
History

The establishment of a Daughters of Imperial Court in Tyler had long been anticipated by the members of Aqaba Temple No. 173 in Tyler, Texas. Their goal was to create a Court comprised of hardworking, dedicated women who would collaborate with them to positively impact the local community. With the backing of Noble Anthony Turner, the reigning Potentate, a campaign was launched to gather such a group of women.

On May 15, 2012, the inaugural official meeting was convened at the Queen Street Masonic Family Lodge in Tyler. During this meeting, the name "Divine Ladies Isis Club" was chosen, with purple selected as the group's signature color. Over the course of a year, the Club engaged in numerous fundraisers, fostered sisterly bonds, witnessed changes in leadership and membership, and embarked on various community service endeavors. A significant event was a mass meet and greet held in Tyler on January 19, 2013.

On April 12, 2013, in the presence of the 43rd Imperial Commandress, Daughter Ruth Mayfield Ellerbe (74), along with other dignitaries, 27 Novices were initiated, out of which 21 became the founding Daughters of Aqaba Court. This initiation took place at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Austin, Texas, during the 2013 Texas Desert Conference and Gala Days, hosted by Cheops Temple No. 200 and Cheops Court No. 182.

On August 19, 2021, during the Imperial Session in Phoenix, Arizona, Aqaba Court was formally granted its charter and court number. The first member to transfer into Aqaba Court No. 221 was Dt. Kharyn Floyd, a member of Takbir Court No. 206 Oasis of Honolulu, Desert of Hawaii. Unfortunately, one member, Daughter Kelly Pinke, was lost during the Covid epidemic.

Despite challenges, Aqaba Court continues to expand its presence and impact on the community. They actively participate in events such as Kids Day in the Park, the Crystal Ball (for the mentally challenged), backpack drives, park and cemetery clean-ups, Diabetes walks, and community education initiatives. The hope and prayer of the organization is to remain a valuable resource to those they serve.

The leadership of Aqaba Court has evolved over time, with notable Commandresses including Dt. Lauren S. McCormick, Dt. Shanna Hawkins, Dt. Shakendra Hawkins, Dt. Linda Thompkins Sessions, Dt. Stacey Cole, and Dt. Casandra Sanders. Currently, Dt. Sonya Baker serves as the 7th and Current Commandress.
